Melabev's day care centers and memory clubs offer their group members varied opportunities for activity and social interaction. This includes such things as dance therapy, art therapy, cognitive stimulation at the computer with Savion, and much much more. The goal of all these sessions is to stimulate the clients, many who suffer from some kind of cognitive decline , such as Alzheimer's disease, without making them feel frustrated. Staff concentrate on the group members abilities. An example of just such an opportunity was the participation of the group members in the English speaking group, led by Marsha Donshik, in a recipe contest sponsored by the Israeli website Netonews.
Together the group members chose the best recipe - a special chicken soup - that they thought would be appropriate. The recipe now appears on the netonews website. The recipe was written out in a therapeutic reminiscence activity - where members are encouraged to bring up memories from the past and relate them to the present. Each member was able to recall their favorite recipe from their childhood, which of course gave them a positive feeling.
Check out their recipe on the netonews website. Please leave your comments there which will boost the recognition that these elders and Melabev who cares for them deserves. And of course -enjoy the chicken soup recipe!
